China is the center of the world.

No, not geographically. Although ancient Chinese believed that China was the center of the world- a pivotal point. “Zhōngguó”, the Chinese word used for “China”, itself stands for “the center of the world.

Of course, this was centuries ago, but this Chinese belief has had its fair share in shaping the future of China. Because of their immense pride, the Chinese often said ‘NO’ to foreign trade. Which slowly lead to the fall of the Imperial Era.

China is the home to a great culture going 5000 years back, and Chinese people miss no opportunity to express their pride.

Joint Families are a thing

We all know that China leads, in terms of population. But you might not be aware that joint families are prevalent in China. Most people prefer to have a nucleated family, but not in China.

The importance of family is instilled in the minds of people since the very beginning.

You can find three or more generations of one family living together in one house. The prime reason being, cultural dominance. But one cannot ignore the effects of the “one-child policy”.

Being the only child, it becomes his responsibility to look after the aging parents.

Another reason for the prevalence of joint families is that most grandparents want to spend time with their grandchildren.

Just Dating or Exclusive?

When you date someone, you take time to understand them. You analyze the situation, find out if you are compatible and then get into a real relationship.

But things are much different in China. When you start dating someone in China, it is presumed that you both are exclusive. Which means no casual dating! You cannot go out with more than more person at a time.

People in China take tea very seriously. Tea is more than just a warm beverage for them. In Chinese culture, it is a humble way to welcome a guest. If you have noticed, you would know that the Chinese have special teapots and cups.

Some of which are passed down for generations. Just like the silverware in your family. So, the next time when you go to a Chinese home and they offer you tea, know that they are welcoming you with all their heart.

What do Dragons symbolize?

You must have read many stories revolving around dragons and in most of them they are portrayed as vicious creatures- bearer of death. Take Jabberwocky from Alice in Wonderland, for instance.

Contrary to that, the Chinese perceive dragon differently. Chinese culture portrays dragons as strong and mighty creatures. They, metaphorically, represent light, success, and strength.

Most people are under the impression that horoscopes are nothing but a simple way to play with people’s minds. But that is not true in China. Horoscopes and Zodiac Signs form an imperative part of Chinese culture.

They believe in “Sheng Xiao” which is based on the 12-year cycle according to the Chinese lunar year system. It not only gives them direction but also help them maintain balance in their life.
