Difference Between Public and Private Schools

What Do You Mean By Public And Private Schools?

Public schools refer to the educational institutions financed and run by the government, which could be at the state level, local level, or central level. The public schools have much simpler criteria for admission, such that students from all across the country are given the education facilities.

Public and private school

As the name suggests, private schools refer to the educational institutions that are not financed or run by the government but are run by private educational management firms. These schools are usually financed by student fees or by a private firm. These schools tend to have complex admission criteria for the students.

In this current generation, kids and students have access to both types of schools everywhere, as education is a priority everywhere. The government has taken enough measures to ensure that every child is educated, irrespective of the financial condition or the section of society the students belong to.

How Are Public Schools Different From Private?

Following are the most important differences between Public VS Private School:

  • Education Fee: This is one of the most basic differences between private and public schools. The education fee charged by the public schools is almost negligible and stagnant, while the tuition fee charged by the private schools is usually high, and it skyrockets every year.
  • Facilities: Public schools are financed by the government, but the public schools are still not provided with good educational facilities. There is a lot of corruption that plays a huge role in lacked facilities being provided at the government schools. Private schools, on the other hand, focus on providing world-class academics and extra-curricular facilities to their students.
  • Politics Affect: The public schools or the government schools function according to the instructions of the government, and hence its operations are significantly affected by political incidents, be it small or big. Unlike public schools, private schools don’t get affected by local or national politics at all.
  • Number of Students: The private schools and the public schools differ a lot when it comes to the number of students they admit to their schools. Public schools usually try to accommodate the maximum number of students without any strict limits. Also, due to the lack or absence of any strict and difficult admission criteria, the students find it easy to admit themselves in public schools, which is a major reason for a large number of students in public schools.

Private schools, on the other hand, have strict and non-flexible admission criteria and hence admit students who meet the admission criteria. The hefty amount that the private schools charge as the fee is another reason for the decreased number of students in the private schools.

  • Salary of the Teachers: This difference has been recorded as one of the major differences between private and public schools. Surprisingly, public school teachers can exceed the average pay received by private school teachers. The job security in public schools is also better than that for private school teachers. Moreover, the selection of teachers for private schools is easier than that of the public or government schools. The government recruits highly-qualified teachers only for public school academics.
  • Course Delivery: The curriculum of both private and public schools is the same. However, there is a major difference in the way they deliver or impart education. Private schools usually have a well-structured and disciplined delivery style, which is rarely seen in the delivery style of public schools. This is why people usually prefer admitting their children to private schools.
  • Admission Process: The public schools or the government schools cannot have a complicated and multi-stage admission process, while the private institutions can develop their admission process from which every student has to go through for getting admission in the school. The reason for the difference in the procedure of admissions is that government schools are required to admit everyone and impart education to as many students as possible. This is not the case with private schools.

Both privately and publicly run schools have their benefits, and both are necessary to meet the educational goals of a nation. Both have their limitations also. So, every parent has a choice between these two types of schools before admitting their child to a school. In recent years, the education standards have improved, and quality education is accessible to everyone nowadays. The government has supported this significant cause with numerous educational schemes and policies for the young generation.
